Comparison reflects publicly available features as of May 2026. Competitor speed estimates are based on field data observed via PageSpeed Insights and Web Vitals; your experience may vary by location and device.

Why each metric matters

Privacy first. Astrology data is sensitive: a birth date, exact time, and city is enough to uniquely identify a person and link them to other public records. Competitor sites POST that data to their servers where it can be logged, used for advertising, or shared with third parties. NatalCalculator runs the entire ephemeris and house-system computation in your browser. Nothing about your birth ever leaves your device. There is no server-side database of charts, no analytics ping containing your data, and no third-party API call carrying your birth information.

House system options. Different traditions use different house systems, and a chart can read very differently depending on the choice. We support Placidus (the Western default), Koch (popular in German-language astrology), Equal House (a clean teaching system), Whole-Sign (the original Hellenistic and modern Vedic standard), and Campanus (a space-based system favoured by some classical astrologers). Most free competitors give you only Placidus.

Vedic depth. Many "free Vedic" tools are really Western charts with a sidereal toggle. We compute the Lahiri ayanamsa, identify the precise nakshatra of the natal Moon (down to the pada), and calculate the full Vimshottari dasha sequence — the 120-year cycle of timed planetary periods that is the backbone of predictive Jyotish. You see your current Mahadasha lord and the date your next period begins.

The often-omitted points. A serious birth chart includes more than the ten classical bodies. We include Chiron (the wounded healer, key to modern psychological astrology), the True Node (which moves in retrograde and shifts as much as a degree per day, so the True position differs measurably from the Mean), and the Part of Fortune calculated correctly with the day/night reversal taught by the Hellenistic tradition. Many free tools omit Chiron entirely or use the Mean Node by default without telling you.

Birth time unknown. Roughly one in five people don't know their exact birth time. Instead of refusing to calculate, we let you generate a "noon chart" — your planetary signs, aspects, and Sun-sign house pattern remain valid; only the rising sign and house cusps are flagged as approximate. Most competitors either refuse or silently default to midnight, which produces misleading angles.

Speed. Because the chart is computed locally, there is no round-trip to a remote server. Largest Contentful Paint is typically under two seconds on a modern phone, with no spinner between submission and result. Older astrology sites often take three to five seconds, sometimes more, before any chart is visible.

Content depth. The calculator is half the value. The other half is interpretation. We publish full guides for every planet in every house, every planet in every sign, every zodiac sign, every house, plus a glossary of more than sixty terms. The library exists so that the moment you generate your chart, you can click any line and read what it means.

Our commitment to free

This site is free and will stay free. We may, in the future, offer an optional polished PDF download for a small one-time fee, but the calculator, the interpretations, the Vedic dasha, the synastry, and the entire content library will remain free to use without an account. Display advertising — clearly marked, never disguised as content — supports the project. There is no "premium chart" gate, no paywall on Vedic features, no email-required to see your reading.
